ANAHEIM, CALIF. (February 17, 2010) Twenty students from St. Catherine’s Military Academy in Anaheim received the Presidential Physical Fitness Award for the 2009-2010 school year. Students received certificates and patches that can be displayed on their school jackets.
This year’s recipients are: 4th graders Christian Amoroso and Jacob Bradley; 5th graders Bryce Mitchell and John Synowsky; 7th graders Alvaro Diaz, Alexander Godoy, David Ike, Phillip Le, Chasen Ott, Jesus Manzanares, Fernando Valles, Justin Wang, and Alex Zhu; and 8th graders Juan Arreguin, Jonathan Bell, Jorge Buitron, Edgardo Diaz, Jorge Elizondo, Luis Navarro, and Roberto Orozco.
The Presidential Physical Fitness Award is part of the Physical Fitness Test, which recognizes students for their level of physical fitness in five events: curl-ups or partial curl-ups, shuttle run, endurance run/walk, pull-ups or right angle push-ups, and V-sit or sit and reach. The Presidential Physical Fitness Award recognizes students who score at or above the 85th percentile on all five events. It is the highest award of the Physical Fitness Test.
St. Catherine’s Military Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is an independent Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in grades kindergarten to 8th grade. The key components of the St. Catherine’s program are challenging academics focused on the specific learning needs of boys and young men, spiritual development under the nurturing care of the Dominican Sisters, and a structured military program that builds confidence and develops leadership skills.
