ANAHEIM, CALIF. (October 16, 2009)

Cadets at St. Catherine’s Military Academy have spent October, the Month of the Rosary, learning more about the sacred prayer. Activities have included student projects, school-wide prayer of the rosary, and the celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

“Since the 1500s, when Mary first promoted the Rosary, it has been a popular devotion throughout our world,” says S. Johnellen Turner, principal of St. Catherine’s. “Meditating on 20 significant moments in the life of Christ helps the students and the school community to focus on the presence of God in our lives and the love flowing from that presence.”

St. Catherine’s Military Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is an independent Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in grades kindergarten to 8th grade. The key components of the St. Catherine’s program are challenging academics focused on the specific learning needs of boys and young men, spiritual development under the nurturing care of the Dominican Sisters, and a structured military program that builds confidence and develops leadership skills. The school offers both day and boarding opportunities.
