ANAHEIM, CAILF. (October 1, 2009) St. Catherine’s Military Academy welcomed a special group of individuals onto its campus- the LAPD Motorcycle Drill Team. Twenty highly trained and highly talented police officers visited the campus to meet the cadets, enjoy lunch, and give students a drill demonstration. The event was organized by Officer Mitch Windsor, whose son is a kindergartener at St. Catherine’s.
The drill demonstration was especially interesting to the Academy’s cadets because they practice many of the same drill steps and formations. Of course, St. Catherine’s cadets drill on their feet rather than wheels.
“We felt privileged to host such experienced professionals at our school,” said Cadet Lieutenant Joseph Synowsky. “It was great to talk with the officers during lunch and then watch the fantastic performance they put on,” added Cadet Lance Corporal RJ Ivory.
St. Catherine’s has enjoyed a close relationship with law enforcement and other civil servants throughout its history. The Academy invites area police officers, fire fighters, and other service personnel to campus for Civil Servants’ Day, held each spring.
St. Catherine’s Military Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is an independent Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in grades kindergarten to 8th grade. The key components of the St. Catherine’s program are challenging academics focused on the specific learning needs of boys and young men, spiritual development under the nurturing care of the Dominican Sisters, and a structured military program that builds confidence and develops leadership skills. The school offers both day and boarding opportunities.
