SPECIAL BIRTHDAY MASS OFFERED AT ST. CATHERINE'S MILITARY ACADEMY

ANAHEIM, CALIF. (March 11, 2009)

St. Catherine’s Military Academy alumnus, Most Reverend George H. Niederauer, Archbishop of San Francisco, will be offering Birthday Mass at St. Catherine’s Military Academy on Saturday, March 21, 2009. The Academy will be celebrating 120 years in Anaheim, the oldest school in Anaheim. Most Reverend Niederauer is a graduate of the class of 1950. His return to the Academy and the special Birthday Mass will mark the beginning of a celebration day for the school and a celebration year as well. St. Catherine’s will open their campus to all visitors on March 21 providing an opportunity to visit their grounds and celebrate with the current cadets, staff, and Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose who founded the Academy in 1889.

The Academy is celebrating 120 years in Anaheim and is the oldest school in the city. According to the Academy History the school was originally a girls’ school and also an orphanage. Formal celebration is scheduled for March 21 on campus from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Day’s activities include an Anniversary Mass, band performances, drill competition, birthday cake and more. The public is invited and encouraged to join the festivities.

St. Catherine’s Military Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is a Catholic preparatory elementary school for boys in grades Kindergarten to 8th grade. Small class sizes, spiritual development, military emphasis on leadership and courtesy, athletics, music and advanced technology, prepare the students for positive and successful years in high school and college. The school offers both day and boarding opportunities. Special Summer Enrichment programs are available in a variety of subjects.
