ANAHEIM, CALIF. (March 4, 2009) St. Catherine’s Military Academy has been looking for some “old friends” to join them in a celebration of the Academy. Principal Sister John Ellen and staff have been researching St. Catherine’s graduates through their 120 years of student statistics hoping to have some join the 120 year birthday of the school, March 21, 2009. A group of alumni are already meeting on a regular basis to catch up, and add their resources in finding former cadets. A number of old Anaheim and Orange County families had their sons enrolled at St. Catherine’s over the years. The project continues and alumni are encouraged to contact the academy and join the celebration. One rather famous alumni, The Most Reverend George H. Niederauer, Archbishop of San Francisco will be offering Birthday Mass on March 21 at St. Catherine’s.
The Academy is celebrating 120 years in Anaheim and is the oldest school in the city. According to the Academy History the school was originally a girls’ school and also an orphanage. Formal celebration is scheduled for March 21 on campus from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Day’s activities include an Anniversary Mass, band performances, drill competition, birthday cake and more. The public is invited and encouraged to join the festivities.
